Lent Goes to the Movies

Film is a parable we contemplate. It is a way for God to speak to us. Parables do not tell us what to do; they present a story that mirrors our concerns and so brings us face to face with ourselves. In this way, when we watch a film and ask what God is telling us, our values connect with what God values and there is communication. Lent Goes to the Movies is designed to facilitate a personal and transformative journey through this key liturgical season. You can use the book on your own or in a group, parish, school or pastoral centre. For each week of the season, there are three choices for adult groups and one for younger viewers with a specially written exercise for them. Each week begins with a reflection followed by a choice of four movies, one of which is suitable for younger audiences. Each movie begins with its own reflection, a film synopsis, and reflection and discussion questions. For Advent, try Advent Goes to the Movies.John Pungente, Monty Williams, Neil Andersen
